Jori Hulkkonen was born and raised in the small town of Kemi in Northern Finland. From the early ’80s his musical influences were leaning towards all things electronic and slightly more eclectic than your average ten-year-old Scandinavian kid growing up in the middle of the Cold War.
In the late ’80s Jori’s musical passion started displaying itself when he discovered the slightly more abstract form of electronic music, namely Detroit techno, and house music.
While earlier influences included slightly more traditional pop music from Depeche Mode to Pet Shop Boys and from John Foxx to The Smiths, the new wave of American electronic club music pushed Jori towards experimenting with structures and textures that were far removed from those roots. Still, a lot of those early influences pushed through in his productions.
